Nunchucks or nunchaku are very popular martial arts weapons. Generally, a nunchaku is a weapon made of two wooden sticks connected with a chain or a rope. 

There are a few interesting stories associated with the nunchucks. I am here to explain all those incredible stories. So, let’s explore those stories. 

Okinawa – The Birthplace of Nunchucks

The most popular story is that Okinawa is the birthplace of the nunchucks. This is a region close to Japan and China.

This is believed to be the place where they were first used. The first ever nunchaku looked like a flail and had two sticks connected with a rope.

Chinese Agricultural Tool

Another popular story revolving around the nunchaku is that it was an agricultural tool. During the 10th century, it was a basic agricultural tool used in the Chinese territories. The Chinese villagers used it for reaping crops such as wheat and rice. 

Historic Warfare with Nunchucks

Very few people know that nunchucks are involved in a historic warfare. During the 10th century, a Chinese Emperor lost a war to the Mongolians. He retreated and came to the Chinese Mainland territory. He lost his Sung Dynasty to the Mongolians. 

He discovered nunchucks when he saw Chinese villagers using it for reaping and cutting crops. He learned to use the weapon for fighting and combat. 

He gathered his troops and handed this weapon to them. He taught them different fighting techniques with it. 

After some practice, they headed towards the Mongolians equipped with nunchucks. This weapon assisted them in defeating the Mongolaisn pretty easily in the end.

Nunchucks in the Movies

Nunchucks have featured in many movies. As of late, Donnie Yen has used it in his movies. During the 1970’s and 1980’s, Bruce Lee used it very often on the big screen. Some of his famous movies such as Enter the Dragon featured a heavy use of nunchucks.
